CSU East Bay Workforce Reductions
On Tuesday, February 16, California State University, East Bay announced that approximately 140 non-teaching staff members would be subject to "workforce reductions," either by time-reductions or layoffs. The reductions will become effective June 30, 2010, the close of the fiscal year.
The university subsequently informed Academic Professionals of California (APC) that some of the non-teaching staff affected by the workforce reductions are members of collective bargaining Unit 4.
There are a total of fifteen (15) Unit 4 staff members who have been given official notification of layoff, out of a total of one hundred fifteen (115) of our members currently employed on the CSU, East Bay campus.
The job classifications and number(s) of Unit 4 staff employees affected by the layoff notice within each classification are listed as follows:
Credential Analyst I - 1 employee
Credential Analyst II - 3 employees
Evaluator I - 3 employees
SSP IB - 1 employee
SSP II - 3 employees
SSP III - 4 employees
APC President, Mary Kay Statham-Doyle visited the CSU, East Bay campus from Monday, February 22, through Wednesday, February 24, and had extensive meetings and discussions regarding the impending workforce reduction, with campus APC leadership, Unit 4 members and representatives from the university administration.
The campus and statewide leadership of APC will continue to assist our members who have been adversely impacted by the workforce reductions, in every way possible.

Humboldt State University Layoff Information
On Sunday, February 28 at 9:42 PM, the California State University, Office of the Chancellor sent a fax notifying Academic Professionals of California (APC) that "In accordance with Article 33 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement ("Agreement"), between the parties, Humboldt State University has determined that there is a need to implement the layoff procedures of the Agreement due to lack of funds and lack of work."
The correspondence went on to state that this layoff "will become effective as early as June 1, 2010, for some, and as late as August 19, 2010 for others."
It is anticipated that there are a total of seventeen (17) Unit 4 staff members who will be impacted by the layoffs, out of a total of eighty four (84) of our members currently employed on the Humboldt State campus.
The job classifications and number(s) of Unit 4 staff members listed in the layoff notice are as follows:
Student Services Professional II - 8 employees
Student Services Professional III - 7 employees
Student Services Professional IV - 2 employees
Additionally, the notification from the Chancellor's Office informed us that, "Currently, there are no APC employees that will be fully laid off at Humboldt State."
Please be assured that the campus and statewide leadership of APC will be doing everything humanly possible to assist our dedicated and hard-working members who have been adversely affected by this action, with all of the resources that we have available.
