Ask The President
Go Ahead, Ask!
Dear APC Members:
In my time as your president I have seen, been through, and learned quite a lot (I will share my full thoughts on my time as president soon). Although I continue to be both pleased and honored to serve you as your president, I also continue to be very frustrated by the ongoing difficulty of simply communicating with you.
In October of 2008 I was invited to speak at CFA's Assembly in Los Angeles. At that time I made comments on a topic that could be titled, "For Whom Do I Speak?" The main focus of my comments was that, in a member run union like APC, it is not enough for me just to speak for myself, I need to be able to speak for you because YOU are APC. Speaking for you easy enough when I am armed with voting results like those from our recent final furlough vote, but on other issues and on other topics it's not quite so easy for me or anyone else to claim to speak for you.
In order to be a good, effective leader I need to be able to speak with so I can speak for you. We are hard at work at the APC Statewide Office developing methods to communicate more directly and more quickly with you, and we hope to provide an array of communication tools that will allow you the most direct access possible to your leadership very soon. In the meantime, I would like to hear from as many of you as possible. We have set up a temporary email account for you to be able to ask any question or provide any input you like. I will do my best to answer as many questions as possible every other week, but there are a few things that I ask you all to consider as you ask your questions or make your comments:
- Both questions/comments and their responses are intended for public posting on APC's web site
- Questions/comments submitted will be assumed to have the writer's consent to publish her/his name and campus along with my response
- While it might not be possible to answer every question right away, we will do our best to answer as many of them as possible over time
- Questions/comments may be edited as necessary for grammar, formatting, and space considerations
- Ad hominem attacks on any persons posed as either questions or comments will simply be ignored and deleted
Although it may not seem like it, there really is quite a lot going on in APC. I hope many of you will be willing to engage in a discussion with me to the benefit of everyone in APC and Unit 4. Please send your questions and comments to: president@apc1002.org.
Yours in union,
Fernando J. Beltrán
